NNPP Nullifies Jibrin's Expulsion Announcement
In a surprising turn of events, Abdulmumin Jibrin, a former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group, has rejected the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP)'s decision to expel him, describing it as a "rude shock."
The declaration of Jibrin's expulsion was made by Hashim Dungurawa, a former Kano State chairman of the NNPP who had earlier been expelled from the party. Oginni Sunday, the NNPP's National Secretary, described Dungurawa's action as "a joke taken too far" and stated that "a non-member cannot attempt to expel a sitting federal lawmaker."
The NNPP, however, has dismissed the purported expulsion of Jibrin, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State. No invitation was extended to Jibrin to defend himself before any organ of the NNPP.
Jibrin has criticised the NNPP for poor recognition of members' efforts and their perceived lack of political value. He also compared the lack of a fair hearing to a court-martial under a military dictatorship.
Oginni Sunday advised that one way for Governor Abba Yusuf to secure a win in Kano in 2027 is to travel to Lagos and tender an apology to the party's founder and leadership. He warned that Governor Abba Yusuf's continued loyalty to Rabiu Kwankwaso could jeopardise NNPP's hold on Kano in 2027. However, no new information about Governor Abba Yusuf's loyalty or potential actions was provided.
Jibrin did not mention any intention to align with Kwankwaso's camp, contradicting an earlier statement by Oginni Sunday. He also denied the allegations of defaulting in financial obligations and challenged the party to issue him an invoice to settle the claims promptly.
The party cited an April 2, 2025, judgment of a Federal Capital Territory High Court and a ruling from an Abia State High Court, which confirmed the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his allies, including Dungurawa. The Kwankwasiyya movement allegedly sought to undermine Jibrin in retaliation, according to Oginni Sunday.
Jibrin's allegations of undermining by the Kwankwasiyya movement were not mentioned in this paragraph. No new information about the NNPP's potential 2027 hold on Kano was provided in this article. The NNPP's National Secretary, Oginni Sunday, issued a statement describing the announcement as "baseless and unauthorised." Jibrin stated that the interview he gave, which the party cited, should not warrant such a heavy penalty.
