Suno Music Platform Takes a New Direction with AI-Focused Approach

Paul Sinclair, a seasoned music industry veteran and former Atlantic Records executive, has taken the helm as the new Chief Music Officer at Suno, a music platform aiming to revolutionise the industry. Sinclair, who has worked with artists like Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran, was appointed effective July 7, 2025.

Sinclair's role at Suno is to guide the empowerment of creators of all skill levels and expand creative expression. He is excited about shaping how Suno's technology is used to empower artists, expand creative expression, and build new bridges between music and fans. Sinclair believes that music making should be as accessible as playing video games.

However, Suno has been facing a perception problem due to past controversial statements. The platform's CEO, in the past, dismissed music making as a chore. Despite this, Sinclair aims to secure collaboration and cooperation from big labels and artists to democratise music making and make investments.

Suno's new approach focuses on the integration of AI as one of many tools in the creative process. The future of music, according to Sinclair, involves AI as a means to empower artists and enable more people to experience the joy of creating songs. However, the relationship between AI and music has been rocky so far, and it remains uncertain how smoothly Suno's technology will integrate with the existing music industry.

Moreover, Suno is currently facing a legal threat from the big three labels, and it is rumoured that the platform has been at war with them. Established artists are concerned about ensuring new-starters have a career and getting paid. Some new music platforms aim to eliminate musicians, engineers, and producers, which adds to the industry's apprehension.

Despite the challenges, Suno aims to foster experimentation and imagine the future of music in a world where AI will be one of many tools in the creative process. Timberland was appointed as Suno's Strategic Advisor to assist in this endeavour. Sinclair's new role at Suno brings together music, technology, and artist development in a new and inspiring way.

It is unclear whether musicians and producers will willingly embrace Suno's technology. Only time will tell if Suno's ambitious plans will reshape the music industry or face resistance from within.
