NSE educates engineers on data security measures
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has initiated a data protection training programme for engineers, in collaboration with the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the Nigerian Institute of ICT Engineers (NIICTE). The training, which aims to uphold innovation, integrity, and trust in the engineering industry, is being held in Abuja.
Dr Vincent Olatunji, the Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) in Nigeria and the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigerian Data Protection Commission, delivered the keynote speech at the event. In his address, Dr Olatunji emphasised the importance of data protection for engineers, stating that it has become a fundamental aspect of professional engineering practice.
Dr Tolulope Pius-Fadipe, the Head of Research and Development at the NDPC, represented Dr Olatunji at the event. Pius-Fadipe highlighted that data protection, regulatory compliance, and information governance have become imperative for engineers due to the increasing reliance on technology in various sectors.
The training will equip engineers with principles, risk management tools, and best practices for data protection. It will provide both technical and regulatory knowledge, bridging knowledge and skills gaps for engineers to meet contemporary professional demands. The training is part of NSE's professional development initiatives, following NSE's ISO 9001:2015 certification, demonstrating the society's commitment to quality management and international best practices.
Oguntala, speaking on behalf of NSE, expressed gratitude to the partners supporting the initiative. He encouraged participants to engage fully, ask questions, and share experiences. The training aims to ensure that Nigerian engineers can lead in data protection compliance, maintaining trust, integrity, and compliance in the engineering industry.
Engineers are at the forefront of innovation, creating solutions that transform the world. With the increasing use of technology in various sectors, data protection has become crucial for engineers to maintain trust, integrity, and compliance. The training aims to bridge the gap between the growing need for data protection and the knowledge and skills of engineers.
By training at least 10,000 members across categories, the NSE hopes to empower engineers to make informed decisions regarding data protection and contribute to the overall growth and development of the engineering industry in Nigeria.
