Nurturing Talent Through Educational Initiative

The MINT Cluster, an initiative focused on encouraging children and young people in the Landshut region to pursue careers in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology (MINT), has been granted continuation funding until 31 August 2027 by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Aerospace (BMFTR). This decision is an important signal for the Landshut region, signifying a commitment to securing long-term MINT education and workforce.

The MINT Cluster, which consists of partners such as the city of Landshut, MINT Forum Bavaria, University of Landshut, Silicon Vilstal, World Acre Landshut, and DOM, has been active since its inception in September 2022. Over the past year, it has established a strong extracurricular educational offering, with over 6000 children and young people participating in various formats.

The MINT Cluster's activities will continue to be focused in the Landshut region. The initiative aims to inspire children and young people aged 8 to 16 for MINT subjects and provide future-oriented perspectives for them. The MINT Cluster's goal is to secure the long-term securing of MINT offers in Landshut.

The MINT Cluster's funding provides time and financial stability to strengthen organizational structures. It will allow the MINT Cluster to build long-term partnerships, focusing on cooperations with municipalities, companies, and civil society actors. The continuation of the MINT Cluster's educational offerings will be made possible by the continued voluntary commitment of the project partners.

One of the MINT Cluster's highlights is the annual regional MINT day, which aims to make MINT tangible for children, young people, and their parents. The event features science shows, practical workshops, company information stands, and special attractions like the "Innotruck" of the BMBF.

During the next two years (2025-2027), the focus of the MINT Cluster will be on consolidating existing educational offerings and strategically expanding the network. The "Child-friendly Municipality" Landshut will start a second project phase.

The MINT Cluster's aim is to secure a structurally and financially sustainable future for MINT education in the Landshut region, including building long-term partnerships. The continuation funding decision is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
