NYT Exposes Hints and Solutions for August 22nd

The New York Times Company has recently released a new game called "Pips", adding a unique spin to the classic game of dominoes. The game, which was globally launched on August 18, 2025, offers single-player gameplay and challenges players with color-coded conditions that set it apart from traditional dominoes.

In "Pips", tiles are placed vertically or horizontally and connect with each other. The main difference lies in the color-coded conditions that must be met in certain spaces. If an area does not have any color coding, it means there are no conditions on the portions of dominoes within those spaces.

The domino halves in a space must add up to specific numbers, and the answers for these sums are provided. For instance, in a space with no specific conditions, the sum should be 0, and the answer is 0-1, placed vertically. In a space where the sum is 18, the answer is 6-6, placed horizontally, and 6-3, placed vertically. In a purple space, the sum should be 3, and the answer is 4-3, placed horizontally, or 2-3, placed vertically. Similarly, in a blue space, the sum is 4, and the answer can be 1-4, placed vertically, or 4-3, placed horizontally. In a red space, the sum is 2, and the answer can be 2-2, placed vertically, or 0-2, placed horizontally.

Moreover, the game introduces conditions such as "Number", "Equal", "Not Equal", "Less than", and "Greater than". For example, in a purple space with the condition "Less than", the domino halves must add up to a number less than 3.

Hints are provided to help players navigate each difficulty level, and the game currently only reveals the entire puzzle when you're stuck.

"Pips" is a game that puts a unique spin on dominoes, offering a fresh and challenging experience for players. If you're a fan of puzzles or looking for a new game to try, "Pips" might just be the game for you.
