O2 Telefónica Expands Mobile Network in Schorfheide Municipality

In a significant move to improve mobile network coverage, O2 Telefónica, a leading full-service telecommunications provider, has expanded its network in the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, a popular destination in Brandenburg, Germany.

Residents of the Schorfheide municipality will now benefit from significantly improved mobile network coverage in the O2 network. This expansion reaches around 98% of the population with the modern mobile standard.

The company, which is majority-owned by the Spanish telecommunications conglomerate Telefónica S.A., has equipped more than 1,000 mobile network sites with 5G since the beginning of the year. This expansion includes the upgrade of a mobile network site to 5G in the Boehmerheide district of the Schorfheide municipality.

With the new 5G frequency, which has a range of several kilometers, a large part of the Schorfheide region is now well-covered by the O2 mobile network. This upgrade enables a stable and fast connection in the 5G network for the residents of the municipality.

Mallik Rao, the Technical and Business Customer Board Member of O2 Telefónica, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, "We are committed to creating an even more powerful network for everyone. The expansion of the mobile network site in Boehmerheide is an important step in strengthening the digital infrastructure in Brandenburg and further enhancing the attractiveness of the Schorfheide location."

O2 Telefónica offers classic voice and internet connections, as well as innovative digital services in the areas of the Internet of Things and data analysis. Thanks to the faster connection technology, locals and visitors can now seamlessly surf on the go, use digital services like navigation apps, and share their experiences in nature with everyone.

In the fiscal year 2024, the company generated sales of 8.5 billion euros with around 7,800 employees. As a leading mobile provider in the consumer market and in the market for innovative partner offers, as well as a rapidly growing provider in the solutions business for corporate customers, O2 Telefónica continues to invest in expansion where its customers need the network, whether in the city, countryside, or on the go by train and car.

However, it's worth noting that the city in Brandenburg that benefits from the 2025 5G mobile network upgrade by O2 Telefónica in the Böhmerheide area is not explicitly named in the available search results. Multiple towns in Brandenburg like Zehdenick, Altlandsberg, Wiesenaue, and others have been mentioned as areas with O2 network improvements, but none specifically linked to Böhmerheide in 2025.

As of 30.06.2025, O2 Telefónica serves 34.7 million mobile connections (excluding connections of third-party network operators). The company's powerful and award-winning mobile network covers more than 99% of the population in Germany. This expansion in Schorfheide is a testament to O2 Telefónica's commitment to providing reliable and advanced telecommunications services to its customers.
