In a thrilling encounter at Hove, Jaydev Unadkat showcased his bowling prowess for Sussex in their County Championship match against Hampshire.
The Indian fast bowler, who is contracted by Rajasthan Royals until the end of the 2023 IPL season, made an impact in his first game for Sussex this year. Unadkat signed a two-year extension with the club last season, keeping him with the team till 2026, but he will only be available for the final few games both years due to unspecified reasons.
Sussex, currently sixth in Division One, needed an inspired bowling effort to stand a chance in the game after conceding a 104-run lead. In the first innings, Hampshire were dismissed for 226, with Unadkat picking up two wickets. The number of extras in the first innings was the second-highest contributor, with 24.
Hampshire's batting lineup struggled, with no other batter managing more than 25 runs. Ben Brown was the highest scorer for Hampshire, scoring 71 runs. Hampshire collapsed to 89-7, with Coles running through the middle order. Unadkat picked up two of the last three wickets to fall, finishing with 4-50.
In reply, Sussex could only manage 122 runs. Jaydev Unadkat gave Sussex the first breakthrough in the second innings, dismissing Fletcha Middleton. A fighting stand between Keith Barker and James Fuller took Hampshire over 120, but they were eventually bowled out for 173, giving Sussex a target of 278.
Tom Alsop was the top-scorer for Sussex, scoring 39 off 75 balls. Despite a valiant effort, Sussex fell short, ending their innings on 122 runs.
