Officer assaulted with a butcher knife in Brooklyn by an individual, who later lost his life following police intervention, according to NYPD reports.

In a shocking turn of events, a man wielding a 14-inch butcher knife entered a NYPD stationhouse in Brooklyn and attacked a female officer. The incident, which unfolded behind the 73rd Precinct stationhouse on East New York Avenue in Brownsville, has left the local community unnerved.

The attack on the officer unleashed a series of events that saw officers pursuing the man on foot. According to reports, the man lunged at the officers with the knife, slashing the officer in the face before running away. The officer, despite the injuries, bravely pursued the attacker along with other officers and managed to stop the threat before anyone else was hurt.

The man was later taken to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The shooting is being investigated by the NYPD Force Investigation Division.

The identity of the attacker, a man in his 40s, has not been released by the police. However, it is known that Zinnia Maldonado, a reporter for CBS News New York, was on the scene to cover the incident. Maldonado, who joined the News New York team from Boston, has a history of reporting live from scenes such as police incidents and public events.

The attack has been described as a "targeted attack on New York City police officers" by the Police Benevolent Association President, Patrick Hendry. Hendry also praised the officer's courage, stating that despite the injuries, she pursued the attacker and prevented further harm.

The incident was captured on police body cameras, providing crucial evidence for the investigation. The officer who was attacked was later released from the hospital.

In Boston, Maldonado covered various national and breaking news stories, including the Boston Marathon, the Harmony Montgomery disappearance, and the Celtics' journey to the NBA Finals. Her reporting skills and commitment to delivering accurate information have made her a valuable asset to the CBS News New York team.

Mayor Eric Adams also visited the wounded officer, expressing his support and gratitude for the officer's bravery. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face every day in the line of duty.
