Officers apprehend culprits linked to jewelry heists

In the city of Wolfsburg, police have made an arrest in connection to two separate incidents of necklace snatchings that occurred on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The first incident took place at around 16:30 hours in front of a travel agency in Porschestraße. An unknown young man approached two men, aged 61 and 64, spoke in a language they didn't understand, and snatched the 61-year-old's gold chain before fleeing towards the City Gallery, followed by two unknown individuals.

The second incident occurred at around 19:45 hours in the entrance area of an ice cream shop in the pedestrian zone. A younger man violently snatched a 34-year-old woman's chains. The husband of the woman, along with two passersby, chased the suspect, leading to a chase that passed the cinema, over Kolpingstraße towards Rothenfelder Straße. However, the suspect was lost from sight there.

The breakthrough in the case came on the same day, when the suspect was temporarily arrested at 20:12 hours in Friedrich-Ebert-Straße. The arrested suspect was found to be the same as the suspect described in the first necklace snatching incident in Porschestraße. The description of the arrested suspect also matched the description of the suspect from last Saturday's robbery.

The arrest took place at the Wolfsburg Police Station, where the suspect spent the night. The Braunschweig Public Prosecutor's Office did not apply for a remand order on August 21, 2025.

A 20-year-old homeless man was temporarily arrested during the investigation following the first incident. However, he was later released after the completion of police procedures.

During the chase in the second incident, a 47-year-old passerby sustained minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.

Inquiries should be directed to Melanie aus dem Bruch of the Wolfsburg Police at 05361-4646104 or [email protected]. The original content is from Polizei Wolfsburg, transmitted via news aktuell.

The search for the suspects following the first incident initially yielded no results. It is unclear if the suspect in the second incident, who was lost from sight in Rothenfelder Straße, has been found. The investigation is ongoing.
