Ole Miss Dominates Georgia State in Season Opener

In an impressive display of offensive prowess, the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) began their 2021 football season with a resounding 49-14 victory over Georgia State.

Quarterback Austin Simmons led the charge, completing 20 out of 31 passes for a staggering 341 yards and three touchdowns. His first touchdown of the game, a 38-yard pass to Dae'Quan Wright, set the tone for the evening.

Transfer player Kewan Lacy made an immediate impact, scoring his first touchdown for Ole Miss on a 1-yard rush in the first half. He later added a 42-yard touchdown on the Rebels' first possession of the second half, and a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the same half. Lacy finished the game with an impressive 108 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries.

Logan Diggs also contributed to Ole Miss's offensive success, rushing for 91 yards and a score. Harrison Wallace III made five catches for 130 yards and a touchdown, while Lucas Carneiro kicked three field goals, from 33, 42, and 42 yards.

Trinidad Chambliss also had a notable performance, connecting with Izaiah Hartrup for a 13-yard score and completing a two-point conversion, giving Ole Miss a 25-7 halftime lead.

Georgia State managed to score twice in the second half, with Logan Diggs capping the game's scoring with a 5-yard touchdown. However, the Rebels' defense held strong, outgaining Georgia State 695-260 in total offense.

Christian Veilleux, Georgia State's quarterback, completed 4 out of 11 passes for 52 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Veilleux's touchdown pass was a 43-yard connection with Javon Robinson, reducing Georgia State's deficit to 10.

Zxavian Harris intercepted Veilleux, setting up Simmons' 9-yard passing score to Caleb Odom, increasing Ole Miss's lead to 39-7.

In the second half, Ole Miss scored on each of their first three possessions, further solidifying their dominance over Georgia State. This opening win bodes well for the Rebels as they continue their season.
