Olonho Theatre Launches Its 18th Season with the Performance of "Orpheus and Eurydice"
The Olonho Theater in Yakutsk began its 18th season on September 6 with a captivating performance of "Orpheus and Eurydice". This production, directed by Lena Olenova, marks her debut work and offers a unique blend of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice with the Yakut heroic epic Olonho.
The idea for this fresh and new interpretation was born during Lena Olenova's studies in St. Petersburg. Lena, who often finds inspiration in her professional interest in the work of Vsevolod Meyerhold and her personal experiences, collaborated with ballet master Ekaterina Tayshina to bring this production to life. The choreography for the performance is by Ekaterina, while the poetic play was written by Angelina Popova (Kiraman).
The costumes for the production were designed by Sardana Fedotova, and the text for the performance is being developed by actress Anastasia Alekseeva. The performance premiered in Yakutsk in March of this year and has since been well-received by audiences.
Lena Olenova believes that the story of Orpheus resonates with the spirit of the Olonho, and her production intertwines two mythologies in a way that is both engaging and thought-provoking. Epic poetry, as Lena points out, arises from mythology, and this production is no exception.
Following the success of "Orpheus and Eurydice", Lena Olenova and Ekaterina Tayshina will collaborate once more for the Olonho Theater's next premiere, based on the classic "The Tale of the Hero Ysyakh". This upcoming production will be another world classic adaptation, continuing the Olonho Theater's tradition of bringing timeless stories to life.
The Olonho Theater continues to push the boundaries of traditional theater with its innovative productions and unique interpretations of classic stories. With "Orpheus and Eurydice" setting the stage for an exciting 18th season, audiences can look forward to more captivating performances in the months to come.
