In 1985, the world witnessed a series of momentous events that left indelible marks on history. One of the most notable discoveries was made by US deep-sea researcher Robert Ballard, who found the wreck of the British luxury liner Titanic, submerged off the coast of Newfoundland at a depth of 3,740 meters.

On a tragic note, the year also claimed the life of German racing driver Stefan Bellof. Known for his competitive spirit, Bellof died during the 1,000-kilometer race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. He crashed at Eau Rouge and passed away shortly after the accident.

The realm of literature was not left untouched either. In 1985, Bellof's life and the lives of many others continued, unaware of the recognition that would come their way in the future. French writer Annie Ernaux, for instance, would go on to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2022.

Meanwhile, in the world of telecommunication, 1900 saw the first transatlantic cable connection between Germany and the USA, opening up new avenues for telegraphic communication between the two nations.

Fast forward to 1960, and Germany welcomed the arrival of Joachim Masannek, a children's book author who would become well-known for "The Wild Soccer Bunch."

The year 1939 marked a significant turning point in world history with the German invasion of Poland, signalling the start of World War II.

In the realm of music, Ann Sophie DΓΌrmeyer, a German singer, participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.

Looking back at 1715, we remember King Louis XIV of France, who passed away after 72 years on the throne in Versailles.

Lastly, in the political sphere, the AfD, a far-right party, made headlines in 2024 when they became the strongest force in a state election in Thuringia, securing 32.8 percent of the votes.

These events, spanning centuries and various domains, serve as a testament to the rich tapestry of history and the continuous ebb and flow of human endeavour.
