Online debut of BürgerGIS: Hanau's exclusive digital map portal for residents

Starting September 1st, 2025, the city of Hanau will introduce a groundbreaking digital service called CitizenGIS. This new platform, managed by Thomas Nawrath, the managing director of hanau online GmbH, aims to revolutionise the way citizens interact with their city administration.

CitizenGIS is designed with the needs of Hanau's residents in mind, offering a wealth of information at their fingertips. The service will provide traffic and environmental data, AI-supported analyses and forecasts, and the opportunity for all citizens to compare data with the system themselves.

The service is accessible via a user-friendly website, containing all map services of the city administration. Currently, there are 24 thematic maps available, based on more than 90 datasets. Examples of available information include locations of municipal kindergartens and schools, leisure, culture, and sports facilities, land value data, bus routes, and the route of the city run on September 19th.

CitizenGIS also provides information about construction areas, land use plans, and numerous other functions and filters. In the future, it will even provide real-time evacuation maps in case of crisis situations.

Thomas Nawrath, the press contact for CitizenGIS, emphasises that the system is free to use and offers interactive functions for individual evaluations. The goal of implementing CitizenGIS is to make Hanau more citizen-friendly, taking a significant step towards digital data availability and transparency in the city administration's work.

With CitizenGIS, Hanau is establishing new digital services and simplifying existing processes, making it easier than ever for its residents to access the information they need and stay connected with their city.
