New Administration Building Opens in Essen's South Quarter

On September 3rd, 2025, Mayor Thomas Kufen officially opened the new administration building at Kruppstraße 16 in the South Quarter of Essen. The building, comprehensively renovated and adapted to modern administration requirements, spans over 17,300 square meters.

The new building, which has been rented for a period of 30 years, is home to the department of Central Foreigners' Office, Citizenship and Foreigners' Affairs, and the Municipal Integration Center (MIZ). The department moved into the new premises in May of 2025, while the MIZ remains in its new location.

Mayor Kufen expressed his excitement about the new building, stating that it is a visible sign of the city's service orientation and welcoming culture. He added that the new building sends an important signal for everyone seeking a new home in Essen.

The new administration building provides modern and functional conditions for both citizens and employees. It features a spacious entrance area, a clearly structured service, and appropriate waiting areas. Visitors will now benefit from modern waiting areas equipped with WLAN hotspots, call monitors, and self-service terminals.

The working conditions for employees have been significantly improved with modern offices and functional equipment. The building can accommodate up to 453 employees, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.

Mayor Kufen also highlighted the transparency and efficiency the new building offers, stating that it provides short distances for both citizens and employees. He emphasised that the new building is a testament to the city's commitment to providing excellent public services.
