Osun State PDP Legislators Affirm Allegiance to Adeleke Amidst Political Defection Uproar

In the political landscape of Osun State, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has declared the Assembly's full support for Governor Ademola Adeleke's second-term ambition in 2026. This declaration comes amidst a series of political shifts, including notable defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

During a media briefing in Osogbo, Speaker Egbedun emphasised that the Assembly is not just here to defend what they believe, but to declare their full support for Governor Adeleke's second term. He stated that the Assembly will play an active role in ensuring Governor Adeleke's return to office in 2026, by the grace of God and the will of the people.

All 25 members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected on the PDP's platform have pledged unwavering loyalty to Governor Adeleke. The lawmakers, including Oluwole Oke, Abimbola Ajilesoro, and Sanya Ominrin, are united, loyal, and committed to the PDP and Governor Adeleke, according to Egbedun. He also noted that the Assembly is closely in touch with the grassroots and that Governor Adeleke's popularity among Osun residents remains high.

Recently, five federal lawmakers from Osun, including Senators Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi, have left the PDP. However, Speaker Egbedun did not mention any recent defections from the PDP in Osun State during the media briefing. He also did not mention any division, defection, or crisis within the Osun State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, did not mention any statements made by Senator Bukola Saraki regarding the PDP defections. He also did not mention any concerns about a broader exodus within the PDP's ranks in the state legislature.

The Osun APC has rejected Governor Adeleke's potential defection, citing his "many baggage" which they believe makes him a liability for the party. In response, the PDP in Osun State describes itself as a solid platform that enjoys public support, contradicting the APC's portrayal of the party as weakened by defections.

Despite the political shifts, the Osun State House of Assembly remains steadfast in their support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, reaffirming their commitment to his second term in 2026.
