Over 4.4 million individuals are being monitored by oncologists
In a significant development, Russia has witnessed a 22% decrease in one-year mortality among oncological patients, marking a historic low. This encouraging news was shared by the Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, at the International Forum "Innovative Oncology."
Murashko's announcement comes amidst projections that the number of oncological diseases worldwide could reach 35 million by 2050, as per experts' estimates. According to the Minister, the global mortality from oncological diseases could also reach 18.5 million by 2050.
The report about these achievements in the fight against oncological diseases in Russia was made by Interfax. The lifespan of patients with oncological diseases in Russia has also seen an increase, reflecting the improvement in the quality of medical care provided to these patients.
The proportion of patients under dispensary observation for five years or more in Russia has grown by 10.5%. This integral indicator, which reflects the effectiveness of the entire oncological service in Russia, is a testament to the advancements made in the country's oncology sector.
Over 715,000 new cases of malignant neoplasms were detected in Russia this year, indicating a continued focus on early detection and diagnosis. The indicator of detecting malignant neoplasms at early stages in Russia has reached a record level of almost 61.5%.
Murashko emphasized that to effectively combat the increase in morbidity from oncological diseases, further development of medical science, innovations, and their active implementation into practice are necessary.
With over 4.4 million Russian citizens under the supervision of oncologists, the country is making strides in providing comprehensive care to those affected by oncological diseases. These achievements in the fight against oncological diseases observed in Russia do not repeat earlier facts about the potential global increase in the number of oncological diseases and mortality from oncological diseases.
The Minister made this announcement at the International Forum "Innovative Oncology" and also spoke at an international conference on Innovative Oncology organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2021. These developments underscore Russia's commitment to advancing oncology care and research on the global stage.
