In the cooler evening of Torre del Mar, the town celebrated its annual Día del Turista (Tourist Day) with a grand event that saw the unveiling of a giant cake. The cake, measuring nearly 8.5 metres long, was the centrepiece of the festivities, attracting a large crowd that stretched down the promenade near the lighthouse by 8 PM.

The cake, themed "sport and solidarity", was a magnificent creation made from sponge and sugar paste. It was layered with peach jam and topped with an impressive 350 kilos of vegetable cream. The decorations were a delightful tribute to the town's many sports and associations, with sports equipment and the town logo intricately crafted from sugar paste.

Chef Roberto Soler was the centre of attention at the event, his culinary skills showcased in this impressive creation. The cake recipe included 35 metres of sponge cake soaked in spiced syrup, a testament to the chef's dedication to detail.

The event was enjoyed by both tourists and locals, with Deputy mayor Jesús Pérez Atencia in attendance. According to Pérez Atencia, Día del Turista is Torre del Mar's way of thanking visitors for their loyalty. He further stated that the event is a celebration of the town's rich traditions and a chance to share them with visitors.

The cake served around 4,000 slices, with most of those waiting being Spanish holidaymakers. This indicates Torre del Mar as a popular summer destination for domestic tourism.

Local residents also joined in the festivities, making the event a true celebration of the town's unity and spirit. Día del Turista is a platform for sharing local traditions with visitors, and this year's event was no exception.
