Parachute malfunction injures paratroopers during military exercise

A skydiver was severely injured during a jump at Illertissen Airport in the Neu-Ulm district on Saturday. The 38-year-old athlete, whose identity remains undisclosed, experienced a double parachute malfunction that left him plummeting towards the ground.

The skydiver initially attempted to deploy his reserve parachute after his main parachute failed to open. However, the reserve parachute also malfunctioned initially. Fortunately, it eventually deployed just before impact, likely saving his life.

The accident is currently under investigation to determine the exact cause of the parachute malfunction. Preliminary findings suggest no signs of external interference contributing to the malfunction of the main and reserve parachutes.

Upon landing, the skydiver was transported to the hospital by a rescue helicopter. He sustained severe injuries during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details about the location within the airport and the skydiver's identity will be released as they become available.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in extreme sports. Our thoughts are with the injured skydiver and his family during this difficult time.
