Participants of all ages engage in the Pforzheimer City Run

In the heart of Germany, the city of Pforzheim became a hub for amateur and hobby runners over the weekend, as hundreds of participants from various age groups took to the streets for the annual running event. The event, held under brilliant summer weather, saw a 10 km main race and a FunRun, each with its own unique spirit.

The main race, which started at exactly 6 pm, was taken more seriously, with many runners focusing on their personal best times. However, the FunRun, prioritising fun and camaraderie, saw many participants donning humorous costumes, adding a festive atmosphere to the event.

Karsten Penz, from the new wave, was responsible for the event's moderation and awards ceremony, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all. Along the course, parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts stood cheering on the runners, sometimes slowing their progress with their heartfelt encouragement.

One mini-sprint runner was particularly affected by the loud starting pistol, covering his ears as the race began. Yet, for many others, the spectators were more exciting than the race itself, their cheers providing an extra boost of energy.

Many runners also trained in their free time, preparing for the event both in school physical education classes and clubs. Some even trained alongside their colleagues in private friend groups and office communities, making the event a true community affair.
