Passengers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport found with 31 kg of Kath in their luggage were handed over to the Federal Police due to insufficient entry documentation
In a significant development, German customs officers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport seized 31 kilograms of khat leaves from a 28-year-old Israeli national on September 30. The seizure took place at the Main Customs Office in Potsdam.
The individual, who arrived at the airport from Tel Aviv, was accused of violating the Narcotics Act and smuggling. This offence can result in fines or imprisonment for up to 5 years under the Narcotics Act in Germany.
Upon investigation, customs officers found only khat leaves in the suspect's luggage, without any change of clothes or toiletries, suggesting that the traveler's primary purpose for the trip may have been to smuggle the leaves.
Due to insufficient entry requirements, the traveler was handed over to the Federal Police for deportation.
