Penn State alum Micah Parsons headed to the Green Bay Packers, according to head coach James Franklin who believes the linebacker will excel in his new role.
In a surprising turn of events, the Dallas Cowboys have traded star linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The trade, which also involves two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark, marks a significant move for both teams.
Parsons, who was drafted by the NFL in 2021 as a first-round pick, has been a force to reckon with since his entry into the league. Known for his disruptive style of play, he has been considered one of the most "disruptive" players in the NFL.
His former coach at Penn State, James Franklin, has spoken highly of Parsons, describing him as one of the best competitors he has ever been around. Franklin, who is now the coach of the Packers, believes that Parsons will thrive in the community and atmosphere of the Green Bay Packers.
In a move that further solidifies Parsons' commitment to the Packers, he has reportedly agreed to a four-year, $188 million deal with $136 million guaranteed. This deal makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, with $120 million of the deal guaranteed.
The details of the contract were confirmed by Franklin, who compared Green Bay to State College, Pennsylvania, stating that he believes Parsons will find a comfortable fit in the Packers' community.
Micah Parsons' Packers debut is scheduled for September 7 against the Detroit Lions. Before that, he will return to Dallas to play against the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football in Week 4. His performance against his former team is sure to be a highly anticipated event.
Parsons played 26 games for Penn State, recording 192 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. In his time with the Dallas Cowboys, he played and started 63 games, accumulating 256 tackles, 112 quarterback hits, 63 tackles for loss, and 52.5 sacks.
Jeff Hafley, the defensive coordinator at the Green Bay Packers, was also spoken to by James Franklin regarding Parsons' potential impact on the team. With the addition of Parsons, the Packers are poised to make a strong start to the 2023 NFL season.
As the dust settles on this blockbuster trade, the football world eagerly awaits to see how Micah Parsons will perform in his new home with the Green Bay Packers.
