This policy has been in operation for at least a year, having been rolled out across all industries.

For businesses employing one person, the timeline for compliance with the pension requirement began on 1 October. The very smallest firms were the last to be drafted into the scheme, with larger businesses being the first to be legally mandated to offer pensions to all staff under the scheme. Smaller businesses were included over the following months.

The States' backed pension provider for the States Secondary Pension scheme is Sovereign. Businesses can seek advice on the scheme from Sovereign or from other independent firms. The name of the state-supported pension insurance available to self-employed individuals and small businesses is the "Künstlersozialkasse" (KSK).

The States Secondary Pension scheme is open to businesses of all sizes, and it includes requirements for businesses employing just one person.
