Person hit by aggressive dogs in Scottish street ends up in the hospital; individual apprehended under animal attack charges
In a shocking incident last night, around 7.55pm, a woman was allegedly mauled by two dogs in Carden Crescent, Cardenden, Fife. The victim was immediately taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, but the extent of her injuries remains unclear.
The breed of the dogs involved in the incident is not confirmed, but they were said to have a bully-type appearance. A 24-year-old man, named as Keith Milner, has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged attack. He has been released on an undertaking to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court at a later date.
This incident comes at a time when XL Bullies, a breed known for their size and strength, have been at the centre of numerous attacks in recent years across Scotland and the UK. In Scotland, it is illegal to breed, sell, give away, rehome, abandon, or let an XL Bully stray. It is also a criminal offence to own or possess an XL Bully dog without a valid Certificate of Exemption.
Owners with a valid Certificate of Exemption must follow specific rules for the life of the dog in Scotland. These include keeping the dog on a lead and muzzled in public, ensuring secure conditions to prevent escape, and maintaining public liability insurance.
The decision on whether to destroy the dogs in this case will be down to the Procurator Fiscal. The woman, who was later discharged from the hospital, is currently recovering from her ordeal.
Police were called to the scene and are investigating the incident further. The public is urged to exercise caution when encountering unfamiliar dogs and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
