In a tragic incident that occurred on Saturday afternoon, a man lost his life after being hit by an NYPD officer in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens.

The NYPD officer was driving a marked Ford Taurus during a routine patrol of the park, which is currently hosting the U.S. Open tennis tournament. The incident happened on United Nations Avenue South, near the Queens Theatre, New York State Pavilion, and the Unisphere, around 4:30 p.m.

The man was lying face up on the roadway when he was run over. Emergency medical responders rushed to the scene and transported him to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Despite their best efforts, the man was later pronounced dead.
