Person plucked from Shannon's ferry waters following an unfortunate mishap overboard

Earlier this morning, a rescue operation was carried out in the Shannon Estuary following the incident where a man fell overboard from the Tarbert to Killimer Ferry.

The Tarbert to Killimer Ferry, which connects Tarbert, Co Kerry to Killimer in Co Clare, was the scene of the incident. The man was reported to have fallen overboard shortly after 9am.

The Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue Team, Kilrush RNLI, and Kilkee RNLI, along with the Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter, were among the units that participated in the extensive search and rescue operation. The Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue Team deployed two vessels to the estuary, while the Senit lifeboat and Kilrush RNLI lifeboat also joined the effort.

The man was located on the Co Kerry side of the Shannon Estuary and was rescued from the water approximately two hours after falling overboard. He was then winched on board the Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter during the operation.

The man has since been taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment, but no information regarding his current condition has been disclosed.

The Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter, initially not mentioned as coming from Waterford, was also part of the rescue operation. The journey across the Shannon Estuary, which the helicopter would have covered, takes around 20 minutes.

The spokesperson for Valentia Coast Guard confirmed the rescue operation, but no further details about the man's identity have been released at this time.
