The Hannover Fire Department was called into action on Thursday morning for a water rescue operation in the Vahrenheide district. The incident took place on the Mittelland Canal, near the canal bridge on Vahrenwalder Straße.

According to the initial reports, a passerby spotted an apparently lifeless person floating in the water. Firefighters from the department arrived at the scene at around 07:25 and quickly sprang into action. The first responders spotted the person near the northern retaining wall.

The Fire Department Hannover dispatched 40 personnel and 15 vehicles to the operation site. Their "water rescue" specialist group was also mobilised, which includes firefighter divers and a fireboat. The divers secured the person and brought them to shore using the fireboat.

Despite the efforts of the on-site doctor, the person could only be confirmed dead. The news about this unfortunate incident was originally transmitted by the Fire Department Hannover via news aktuell.

The operation caused traffic disruptions on Vahrenwalder Straße, but it ended at around 08:30. The Fire Department Hannover could not provide any further details about the circumstances leading to the incident.
