In a heart-stopping incident in Odisha's Malkangiri district, a man named Irma Sodi from Kotamateru village was rescued after being stranded on a rock in the Saberi River for nearly 24 hours.

The harrowing ordeal began on Monday afternoon during a boat trip from Malkangiri to Sukma in Chhattisgarh. Irma's boat capsized due to strong currents near Matapaka panchayat under Malkangiri police limits.

The rescue operation, a high-risk mission, was conducted by a joint team consisting of personnel from the Fire Services of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, CRPF, and local police. The turbulent river currents delayed the operation, but the necessity of the hour called for innovation.

A helicopter was enlisted to airlift Irma to safety. The helicopter was crucial in navigating the dangerous river currents and reaching Irma trapped on the rock. After a tense wait, the helicopter successfully airlifted Irma Sodi to safety.

Locals spotted Irma trapped on the rock the next morning and alerted authorities. The rescue operation, involving the Odisha Fire Service, was finally successful.

Doctors in the hospital confirmed that Irma's condition is stable. The location of the hospital where Irma was taken is in Chhattisgarh.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise during river crossings, especially during monsoon seasons. We wish Irma Sodi a speedy recovery and commend the bravery and quick thinking of the rescue team.
