Peruvian authorities claim that the husband of a woman from California, who was discovered deceased in a forest, has absconded to Peru.

In a developing story, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department is investigating the case of Sheylla Cabrera, a 33-year-old woman from California, who was reported missing on August 12.

The investigation has taken a concerning turn as Jossimar Cabrera, Sheylla's husband, is suspected of being involved in her disappearance. Jossimar, a 36-year-old man, has fled to Peru, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

Authorities have been searching large areas of the Angeles National Forest for evidence related to Sheylla's disappearance. The Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue Team, aiding in the search, recently found an object similar to the material seen being taken away by Jossimar Cabrera over the side of an embankment in the forest.

Tragically, the body of Sheylla Cabrera was discovered by investigators at the scene. The official cause of her death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.

Investigators believe foul play may have been involved in Sheylla's disappearance and death. Jossimar Cabrera is suspected of being involved and is a person of interest in the case.

Authorities found video surveillance showing Jossimar dragging something in a large piece of material from the apartment complex where the couple lived. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department is working to obtain necessary documents to secure Jossimar's return, and the case against him will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for criminal charges.

The couple's three children were found safe and taken into protective custody in Peru on Saturday.
