Peruvian gambling authority's leader, E. Sevilla, steps down from position

In a significant move, the Peruvian government has announced the appointment of Yuri Guerra Padilla as the new president of the DGJCMT (General Directorate of Casino Games and Slot Machines), following the departure of Eduardo Sevilla Echevarría earlier this year.

The change in leadership came after Eduardo Sevilla Echevarría's term as DGJCMT president ended in 2024, having succeeded Manuel San Roman in 2022. The specific reason for his departure was not disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Peruvian government has taken steps to regulate online gambling activities more effectively. As of late July 2025, Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) created a new Directorate for Remote Gaming and Sports Betting. This development reflects an effort to formalize and oversee remote gaming operations under the DGJCMT's supervision.

The updated legislation mandates gambling operators to establish a local presence and register with MINCETUR by March 10. The changes in the revised gambling law, effective from February 9, include updates on tax collection, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) measures, and the encouragement of responsible gambling.

Previously, concerns were raised about potential manipulation of Liga 1 game performances for sports betting. In October 2024, the Association of Professional Footballers of Peru (Safap) urged the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) to investigate these potential irregularities. Some members of Safap even advocated for the suspension of the Betsson-sponsored league pending an investigation. However, no information has been provided about any action taken by the Peruvian government regarding this matter.

Before his role in the gambling regulator, Eduardo Sevilla Echevarría held various positions in tourism, including director for the Cámara Nacional de Turismo (Canatur) and national director of tourism. Yuri Guerra Padilla, the new DGJCMT president, currently heads the Peruvian gambling regulator DGJCMT.
