Lucid Motors: Peter Rawlinson Steps Down as CEO After Successful Launch of Lucid Gravity

Peter Rawlinson, the former Chief Technology Officer and current CEO of Lucid Motors, has announced his decision to step aside from his roles at the company. This decision comes after the successful launch of the Lucid Gravity, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer's first SUV, which began deliveries in December.

Rawlinson, who joined Lucid in 2013 as CTO, replaced Lucid's co-founder Sam Weng as CEO in 2019. Prior to joining Lucid, he served as the Chief Engineer of the Model S at Tesla.

The Lucid Gravity is believed to be named Earth, based on a patent filing. The midsize SUV is a significant step for Lucid Motors, aiming to compete directly with the Tesla Model Y. The Gravity's launch marks a successful entry into the competitive SUV market for the company.

Rawlinson will now serve as Strategic Technical Advisor to the Chairman of the Board at Lucid Motors. The new CEO of Lucid Motors is Marc Winterhoff, who is currently serving as the interim CEO. Winterhoff previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Lucid Motors.

Lucid Motors is initiating a search for a new CEO. The company also plans to launch a lineup of midsize EVs in late 2026. Notably, the next midsize EV from Lucid is expected to cost less than $50,000, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

In August, Lucid Motors received a $1.5 billion cash infusion from Saudi Arabia, which will undoubtedly aid the company in its future endeavours. With a new CEO at the helm and a promising lineup of EVs on the horizon, Lucid Motors is poised for continued growth and success in the EV market.
