A century-old house in Markt Thierstein has been given a new lease of life, thanks to a comprehensive renovation by Bruno Fraas. The project, which saw the property transformed into housing for seniors, a registry office, and communal rooms with redesigned outdoor areas, has breathed new life into the historic building.
The renovation began with a complete overhaul of the interior. The living room, once dominated by a 1990s brick fireplace, now boasts a minimalist plaster version that seamlessly blends with the room's design. A steel and cedar trellis tops the brick patio, providing a modern touch to the outdoor space.
The dining room is adjacent to an atrium filled with desert plants, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. Terrazzo tiles have been added to the herringbone wood floorboards, adding a modern twist to the traditional layout.
The kitchen has been updated with white oak cabinetry, fluted detailing, and boldly veined marble countertops. One large, bilevel island with integrated seating has replaced several smaller ones, providing a functional and stylish centrepiece.
Doors and windows have been expanded to offer better views of the idyllic lake. A curving central staircase now serves as a focal point in the foyer and living room, leading to the various renovated areas of the house.
In the bedrooms, a chic vintage fireplace and a serene study offering a view of the landscape add a touch of luxury and comfort. Multicoloured subway tiles and fluted glass are featured in the wet bar, creating a stylish and functional space.
The renovation of this century-old house in Markt Thierstein is a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful design and careful restoration. The result is a welcoming and modern space that respects the building's history while providing a comfortable and functional living environment for its residents.
