In the Neustadt-Nord district on August 2, a traffic accident occurred that has set off an ongoing investigation. The incident took place at the intersection of Riehler Straße/Elsa-Brandström-Straße, involving a 29-year-old driver and a crossing Opel.

According to initial investigations, the driver veered onto the exit towards Zoo/Amsterdamer Straße and accelerated when signaled to stop. He appeared to have difficulty maintaining his lane during the observation, and the traffic cameras captured him driving through a red light at the intersection.

The driver was observed by a patrol team around 2:15 PM driving on the left lane of three. Shortly after, the collision occurred on Innere Kanalstraße towards the Zoobrücke. Both vehicles, the 29-year-old's and the Opel, were severely damaged and were no longer roadworthy.
