Heavy Goods and Hazardous Materials Control on A23: 31 Drivers Cited for Violations

In a bid to ensure road safety and traffic regulation compliance, a heavy goods and hazardous materials control was conducted on the Forest Rantzau rest area on the A23 by the Elmshorn Police Highway and District Office on July 14, 2025. The control, which took place between 9:00 and 13:00, saw a total of 71 trucks inspected.

The logistics industry in Germany, known for its high levels of goods traffic, was under scrutiny during this control. Supporting forces included traffic police stations in Bad Segeberg, Heide, Brunsbüttel, and Neumünster, as well as the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility.

The control revealed several violations. Thirty-one drivers were found to have exceeded their driving and rest times, a punishable offense under the Driver Hours Act. Five drivers were fined 60 euros each for failing to secure their cargo properly.

Other offenses included defective lighting and overdue vehicle inspections. Of the trucks inspected, 42 vehicles were found to be in violation, and the journey had to be prohibited for 3 vehicles.

An oversized load carrying construction machinery was also discovered during the control, for which the journey was prohibited. The logistics company fined by the police in Bad Segeberg for exceeding vehicle load weight limits remains unspecified. A profit withdrawal procedure was initiated against the logistics company for the overload.
