Police Evaluate Initial Outcomes from Security Measures at Central Station
After two months of implementing a new risk reduction concept, the Hildesheim Police Department has announced its first positive results. The initiative, which began on September 27, 2024, was instigated due to developments at the Hildesheim main train station and adjacent areas.
The police's primary aim is to prevent serious crimes such as robberies, and the initial results are promising. In November 2024, there were no known crimes in the entire vicinity of the main train station. This is a significant improvement, considering there were 19 robbery offenses in the recent past in the areas of Marienfriedhof and Ohlendorff Bridge.
The police have been proactive in their approach, carrying out 284 identity checks and verifications, and 123 searches of persons and their accompanying items in the past eight weeks. This vigilance has led to several positive outcomes. Seven knives were seized, and criminal/administrative offenses proceedings were initiated. In seven cases, individuals were found to either carry prohibited knives or were subject to a carrying ban for knives.
On October 3, 2024, a knife was secured by police officers during a check on the train station square, violating the Weapons Act. Similarly, on October 22, 2024, deployment officers seized "PolenbΓΆller" that two juveniles had with them at the Hildesheim train station.
The police have also taken measures to prevent repeat offenders. Two repeat offenders received a six-month ban on residence. Following the indictment by the Public Prosecutor's Office Hildesheim, the first convictions have already been made by the Hildesheim Regional Court.
The police have not been alone in their efforts. The Central Criminal Investigation Department of the Police Inspectorate Hildesheim has intensified its investigations into the reported robberies. Movement restrictions have been checked and issued for several persons based on risk prevention regulations, preventing them from entering the area of the main station for the next six months.
The organization responsible for creating the risk reduction concept around the main train station in Hildesheim in 2024 is the local police authority. Inquiries can be directed to the Police Inspectorate Hildesheim's Press and Public Relations department.
On October 9, 2024, a civilian patrol checked a three-person group on the train station square, leading to proceedings for violation of the Cannabis Consumption Act, resistance against enforcement officers, insult, threat, and bodily injury.
Various investigations were initiated based on the police measures, including 24 criminal offenses under the Narcotics or Consumable Cannabis Act. The police are committed to maintaining a safe environment at the Hildesheim main train station and adjacent areas, and they will continue to take necessary actions to achieve this goal.
