Police from the federal level successfully thwarted escalation in Cologne/Bonn, as turbulent travelers instigated an unexpected landing.

On August 21, 2025, a passenger flight from Manchester, UK to Larnaca, Cyprus made an unscheduled landing at Cologne/Bonn Airport due to a 41-year-old British national's violent behaviour towards fellow passengers and the crew.

Upon landing, the Federal Police arrested the woman at the aircraft. She was heavily intoxicated, with a breath alcohol reading of 1.76 per mille. The Federal Police Inspectorate at Cologne/Bonn Airport decided on entry refusal for the 41-year-old.

The other passengers were taken to the transit area of the airport due to the original aircraft's technical issues. The woman was not allowed to continue her journey with the replacement aircraft and was instead taken to the station for further processing and placed in police custody for sobering up.

The Federal Police Directorate Sankt Augustin issued a statement regarding the incident. The statement emphasises the importance of responsible alcohol consumption in air traffic and urges passengers to handle alcohol responsibly.

Aggressive behaviour in air traffic can endanger other passengers and significantly disrupt the safe course of a flight. The Federal Police continues to remind passengers that their safety is their top priority.

The woman is to be immediately returned to the UK after her release from custody. The statement does not provide new information about her current status or plans for her return to the UK.

The search results do not provide information about the head of the Federal Police Directorate in Sankt Augustin responsible for reporting on the unscheduled landing at Cologne/Bonn Airport in August 2025.
