Police in Dresden terminate cycling classes for children
In Dresden, the police force is taking a new approach to combat the growing issue of youth gangs. A special commission, supported by the Dresden Police, has been established with a strategy that does not involve the traffic educators in criminal pursuits.
The four traffic educators, who are specialized professionals in traffic education and prevention, will instead assist in preventive measures at upper schools and grammar schools. However, this shift in focus has led to a temporary cancellation of bicycle lessons for children in 20 primary and secondary schools.
Thomas Geithner, the police spokesman for Dresden, confirmed the cancellation of these lessons. It is unclear if this decision is directly related to the special commission's targeting of criminal youth gangs, but the commission's focus remains on this issue.
The target of the special commission is not specified beyond being related to criminal youth gangs. The SOKO (Special Commission) is combating the phenomenon of youth gangs, and their strategy includes preventive measures at schools.
Despite this shift in focus, no increase in violent robberies on peers has been reported according to police estimates. The Dresden Police continues to prioritize the combat of violent youth gangs, with the four traffic educators contributing to preventive measures in schools.
An alternative has been found for only five schools, and it remains to be seen how the cancellation of bicycle lessons will impact the remaining schools and the children's learning experience. The Dresden Police remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the city's children while addressing the issue of youth gangs.
