Police in Poland have halted a driver and another motorist whose combined fuel consumption exceeded 2.5 liters per mile.

In two separate incidents on August 27, 2025, two drivers in Lower Saxony were stopped by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In the first incident, a 43-year-old man from Unterlüß was driving a Mitsubishi on Berliner Straße around 3:20 pm. Witnesses reported that he was driving erratically, nearly hitting a child on the sidewalk during a right turn on Berlin Street. The police stopped the man, and a subsequent investigation revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol. A breath test showed a reading of over 2.7 per thousand, and his driver's license was confiscated. The man is now facing criminal charges for endangering road traffic.

In a separate incident, a 36-year-old woman from Hannover was stopped by the police in Andelheidsdorf. The officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on her breath, and a subsequent breath test showed a reading of over 2.5 per thousand. She was prohibited from continuing her journey, her driver's license was confiscated, and a blood test was ordered.

In both incidents, the drivers' cars were impounded, and the keys were handed over to relatives. The child involved in the first incident remained unharmed.

An investigation has been initiated against the 36-year-old Opel driver, and the 43-year-old Mitsubishi driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol on the following day, August 28, 2025.
