In the heart of Bavaria, the Youth District Council of Regensburg District continues to empower young voices in local politics. Established in 2016, the council provides a platform for young people to engage in discussions about district-related topics, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed.

The council's latest meeting, held in December 2024, was marked by a strong turnout, with representatives from 15 schools in attendance. District Administrator Tanja Schweiger provided an update on the status of the motions submitted during the meeting, while Deputy District Administrator Maria Scharfenberg and District Councilor Irmgard Sauerer were also present.

One of the key topics discussed was the district's leading position in digitization. The digitization department shared insights on their work, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital barrier-free access, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) for resource savings, the ReLax chatbot, and the storage of over two million documents digitally.

The council also addressed the need for improved student transportation and discussed digital initiatives to engage young people on social media platforms. The majority of young people prefer Instagram and WhatsApp, and a fact-based presence on TikTok is deemed desirable.

In response to concerns raised, the lack of a break area at Gymnasium Lappersdorf due to ongoing construction measures was addressed, with a possible expansion of the leisure areas currently being examined.

A motion to install smoke detectors in all school toilets was approved, a proposal made by Timo Heizmann and Emily Grüll from the Special Pedagogical Support Center Regenstauf, due to smoking taking place there.

The council meeting took place at the Landratsamt Regensburg, and the next session is expected to take place the week before Christmas. Information about the Youth District Council, including meeting dates and agendas, can be found on the homepage of Regensburg District under Youth District Council / our organization.

The administration values direct feedback from young people and is exploring social media channels and formats to effectively reach them. If you have any questions, the main administration of Regensburg District is available to answer at 0941 4009-642 or via email at [email protected].
