Political Parties PDP and LP No Longer Operate in Reality; They Exist Only in Writing According to Kenneth Okonkwo
In a groundbreaking move for Nigerian politics, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has witnessed a significant shift in its leadership, marking the first time a national executive of a political party has resigned and allowed a new executive to take over, as asserted by Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council.
Okonkwo, in his explanation, clarified that this coalition is not a merger but a full absorption into a single political party. He defined a coalition as an alliance to work together for a purpose, and in this context, the ADC has chosen to be their party henceforth.
This coalition, he added, is now dissolved into the ADC, signifying a complete transformation within the party's structure. Okonkwo believes that this approach to leadership transition is a novel thing that has not happened before in Nigeria, setting a precedent for future political developments.
Okonkwo also pointed to recent developments in the ADC as an example of a more functional political structure, contrasting it with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) which, according to him, have lost their relevance in the nation. He asserted that these two parties are no longer functional and only exist on paper.
While Okonkwo did not specify which other political parties he believes are no longer functional, his statements highlight a growing call for reform and change within Nigeria's political landscape. The African Democratic Congress, with its recent leadership transition, may serve as a beacon of hope for those seeking a more efficient and effective political system.
