Politician Nigel Farage aims for the top post as he plans on becoming Prime Minister
In the heart of Birmingham, the Reform UK party held its annual conference, welcoming back a familiar face β Nigel Farage. Amidst pyrotechnics and a sea of supporters, Farage, the British right-wing populist, stepped onto the stage, greeted by chants of "Nigel Farage will be Prime Minister."
For months, Reform UK has been leading in polls, surpassing both the ruling Labour Party and the Conservatives. This disillusionment with the traditional parties is a common sentiment among Reform UK supporters, who feel let down by Labour and the Conservatives.
Farage, who aspires to become Prime Minister, used his speech to outline his vision for the United Kingdom. He promised to stop irregular immigration across the English Channel within two weeks of an election victory and emphasised Reform's vision for the right track, which includes isolation and deportation policies.
A 22-year-old supporter, who has been a member of Reform UK since 2024, expressed his concerns about the housing market and finding affordable apartments. He joined Reform UK out of frustration with Labour and the Conservatives.
A middle-aged woman voiced her fears for her children and grandchildren due to irregular male immigration, while a man in his forties supported Farage's goal of making Britain great again, using a phrase similar to that of US President Donald Trump.
The government crisis in London, triggered by the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, was exploited by Farage to his advantage. He sees the current situation as an opportunity to push for elections in 2027, rather than the scheduled date in 2029.
In his view, the Labour cabinet, located 200 kilometers away in London, consists of proven incompetents. Farage believes that he, with Reform UK, is the last chance to get the country back on track, stating that the culture is in decline.
The Reform Conference in 2023 saw approximately 6,000 members listening to Farage's first speech, and many might have switched parties as a result. As the conference continues, it is clear that Farage's return to politics has energised the Reform UK party and its supporters.
