Politician Nigel Farage expresses ambition for Prime Minister position
In the heart of Birmingham, the Reform Party's annual conference was a buzz with anticipation as Nigel Farage, the British right-wing populist, made his first appearance. Surrounded by bodyguards, fans, and photographers, Farage, who aims to become Prime Minister, delivered a speech that resonated with many.
Farage, a former member of the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany), promised to change the United Kingdom if elected, addressing concerns about the decline of British culture and the rise of irregular immigration. He pledged to stop small boat migrants crossing the English Channel within two weeks of a victory.
The Labour cabinet, located in London, was criticised by Farage as being composed of proven incompetents. Many at the conference view him as their last chance to restore the United Kingdom, with some even celebrating him like a film star. Hundreds of his supporters chanted "Nigel Farage will be Prime Minister" before his entrance.
However, Farage's immigration policy includes immediate deportation of migrants, regardless of the consequences in their home countries. This policy, which leans towards isolation and deportation, has been a point of contention, but the Reform Party maintains it is the right track.
A 22-year-old member of the Reform Party since 2024 expressed concern about the housing market and the need for rents to become affordable. Yet, despite his disillusionment with Labour and the Conservatives, he supports Farage as the right person to save Britain.
A man in his forties supported Farage's goal of making Britain great again, using a phrase similar to that of US President Donald Trump. A woman of middle age expressed fear for her children and grandchildren due to irregular immigration.
The Reform Party, ahead of the ruling Labour Party and the Conservatives in polls for months, is scheduled to hold elections in 2029. However, Farage hopes to hold them in 2027 due to the current crisis. With approximately 6,000 members of the Reform Party listening to his speech, many might have switched sides.
Farage's political agenda was furthered by the government crisis in London, caused by the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner. As the Reform Party's conference continues, it remains to be seen how Farage's promises and policies will shape the future of the United Kingdom.
