Postponement in Town Hall Schedule - Delays due to construction challenges

In an effort to keep the public informed, a detailed status report on the New City Hall project is set to be presented to political bodies in the fourth quarter of 2025. This report, intended to be transparent about the project's current challenges, will explain the next steps in the project, despite the delay and the complexities that have arisen.

The delay in the handover, originally scheduled for December 1, 2025, has been pushed back to mid-September 2026. The primary cause of this delay is unforeseen construction challenges during the renovation process. Additionally, a change of ownership during the project phase has also contributed to the delay.

Mayor Frank Stein remains committed to creating a modern, digital, and citizen-friendly administrative hub with the New City Hall. He expresses anticipation for the perspectives and developments the project will bring to the city. Despite the setbacks, preparations for new wall positions in the building have begun on the construction site.

It's worth noting that the report is not intended to address the unforeseen construction challenges during renovation, the change of ownership during the project phase, or the complex coordination and handoffs between project partners. These issues have been previously discussed. Similarly, the report does not discuss the preparations for the future occupancy, digitization, e-file introduction, organizational and technical equipment of the new workspace, or the beginning of new wall positions in the building, as these were also previously discussed.

The city's preparations for the future occupancy are proceeding as planned. The project's delay, however, will be contextualized in the report, providing a clear understanding of the reasons behind it. The report aims to present the project progress, explain the reasons for the delay, and outline the next steps, offering a comprehensive overview of the New City Hall project's current status.

Mayor Stein emphasizes that additional construction measures by the landlord are required to address the issues at hand. He is confident that with these measures, the project will move forward, ultimately delivering the modern administrative hub the city deserves. The presentation of the report is expected to provide valuable insights into the project's future and the exciting developments to come.
