Potential of the "Scarlet Orb"
In a significant decision, artist Gabriele Staarmann and Mayor Frank Hilker have agreed to reinstall the iconic "Red Ball" artwork in the city area of Detmold. The announcement was made following a meeting held at the Detmold town hall.
The "Red Ball," weighing approximately 2 tons and boasting a diameter of 4.50 meters, will find its new home at the Richthofenstraße roundabout, where it originally stood. The pylons that previously held the artwork will be refurbished to accommodate its return.
The "Red Ball" is a symbol of renewal, first installed in 2002. It was initially secured on May 11, following an incident where it was deliberately released and rolled onto the Nordring street. Despite this incident, the artwork has been protected from further mischief, and its current location remains undisclosed.
Discussions about the "Red Ball's" presentation will continue after the summer, with new ideas and concepts being developed together by Gabriele Staarmann and the administrative board. The exact presentation of the artwork will be decided over the summer, with the aim of preserving its original spirit while incorporating innovative ideas.
