Potential Plans for Wynn's Second Casino Resort in the UAE Already Underway
In the vibrant landscape of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), two global hospitality giants, Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts International, are considering plans for a second integrated resort.
The first integrated resort in the UAE, Ras Al Khaimah, is still due to arrive in early 2027, marking Wynn Resorts' foray into the region. The news about the second integrated resort was first reported by the Arabian Gulf Business Insight (AGBI).
Wynn Resorts' Chief Communications Officer, Michael Weaver, has responded to the news, confirming that while there are plans for a second integrated resort, nothing is definitive until the first one is completed. Weaver also stated that there is a significant opportunity in Ras Al Khaimah for Wynn Resorts to grow in the region.
The second integrated resort, if built, will span over 593,870 square feet and will be located on Al Marjan Island. The partnership between Wynn Resorts and the UAE specifies that Wynn or an affiliate will retain operational control of any casino on the second integrated resort.
MGM Resorts International submitted a bid for an integrated resort in the UAE in 2024, but no decision has been made yet. MGM Resorts and Dubai Holding have held talks about the possibility of a second integrated resort in the United Arab Emirates, in addition to Wynn Resorts.
However, the UAE has been reluctant to issue a second license for an integrated resort. Wynn Resorts, in their cautious approach, will wait for the first property to officially launch before making a definitive decision about the second integrated resort.
The speed at which Wynn Resorts is considering a second integrated resort might be surprising, given their previous statements about expansion. Yet, Weaver assured that the non-compete clause will not hinder Wynn Resorts' global growth.
As the UAE continues to evolve its tourism sector, the potential for multiple integrated resorts becomes increasingly feasible. The developments in this area will undoubtedly be watched closely by the global hospitality industry.
