Predicted winners of the Asia Cup 2025: Jasprit Bumrah is overlooked; former players forecast India's spinner to break the record for most wickets taken
India is gearing up for the highly-anticipated Asia Cup 2025, and cricket experts Dinesh Karthik and Rohan Gavaskar have made their predictions for the tournament.
Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik has backed Varun Chakaravarthy to be the highest wicket-taker in the Asia Cup 2025, surpassing Jasprit Bumrah. Chakaravarthy, who made his India debut during the 2021 T20 World Cup, lost his place in the national setup shortly after, but made a comeback last year following a stellar show in the Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders. Since his return, the spinner has taken 27 wickets in 11 matches across formats, including two five-wicket hauls.
Rohan Gavaskar, son of Sunil Gavaskar and a former cricketer himself, having played 11 ODIs, agrees with Karthik's prediction. Gavaskar also echoes Karthik's belief that Chakaravarthy will excel in the tournament due to his consistent performance in Dubai, where the Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to take place.
In addition to Chakaravarthy, Karthik and Gavaskar predict Shubman Gill to be the highest run-scorer in the tournament. Gill, who is the Indian vice-captain, has been in excellent form, and despite missing the Duleep Trophy 2025 quarterfinals, he is expected to shine in the Asia Cup.
