The Germany Tour, a multi-day cycling event spanning 740 kilometers across 3 federal states, kicked off in style with a memorable prologue in Essen. The course from Bullmannaue to Fritz-Schupp-Allee was particularly demanding, pushing riders to their lactate threshold.

Cycling enthusiasts from various countries and across the republic lined the route, many of whom were already familiar with each other from classic races. The presence of the legendary fan, Dieter Senft, known as the "Tour Devil," added to the Tour de France atmosphere.

The individual time trial course for the event was challenging, featuring sharp turns and a sprint nature. The time trial course is suited for time trial and sprint specialists. A Norwegian rider emerged victorious, leaving world-class riders like Jonathan Milan, Wout van Aert, Nils Politt, and Florian Lipowitz behind.

The ZDF helicopter took off once the first rider started at 4:30 PM, capturing the excitement of the race from above. Thousands of enthusiastic spectators created a memorable sports spectacle, their cheers echoing through the streets of Essen.

The warm-up laps of the professionals provided entertainment before the actual competition. Florian Lipowitz, a rider known for his performance in the Alps and Pyrenees, finished in 36th place, a result expected given the flat terrain of Essen.

The Germany Tour organizers were successful in attracting such world-class riders to the multi-day race. The event is notable for renewed enthusiasm for cycling in Germany, especially around Zeche Zollverein. The organisers also enhanced the Tour de France atmosphere by a thoughtful program for young fans, the professionals of tomorrow.

The prologue in Essen created a two-hour sports spectacle that none who witnessed it will forget. Just 25 days earlier, Florian Lipowitz set a record for TV viewership at the Tour de France, becoming the best young professional and the first German to reach the podium in Paris in 19 years.

Despite the presence of team buses, support vehicles, sponsor stands, and other peripherals, hardcore cycling fans were unfazed. They lined the route, their faces painted with the colours of their favourite teams, adding to the electric atmosphere.

As the race progresses, the Deutschland-Tour 2023 is set to be an exciting event, showcasing the best of German cycling and attracting fans from around the world.
