Proposed New Initiative by the Commission for Public Action

In an exciting development, the city of Giessen has announced the opening of a call for new traffic light motifs on their citizen participation platform, giessen-direct.de. This initiative encourages active participation and invites residents to submit their creative ideas for new motifs.

The traffic light motif should be easily recognisable and understandable to every person, and must be clearly distinguishable between "Stay" and "Go". Submitted motifs will be evaluated by the magistrate, taking into account their feasibility and the popularity of the proposals based on the number of likes they receive.

Citizens can share their ideas, which can then be liked or commented on by all interested parties on the online platform. The city is accepting proposals until September 2025, a deadline set following suggestions from the cycling community in Giessen.

Once the submissions close, the magistrate will evaluate the motifs and create a concept for implementation. Selected motifs will then be installed on certain pedestrian traffic lights along the facility ring in Giessen.

For those with questions or inquiries, the office of citizen participation, local agenda 21 and climate protection can be contacted at buergerbeteiligung@giessen.de or by phone at 0641 306-2116.

Experience from other cities suggests that motifs resembling a person are typically allowed for pedestrian traffic lights. The city of Giessen encourages interesting proposals, so let your creativity flow and contribute to making the city's traffic lights more vibrant and engaging!
