Psychiatric research in Bottrop marks its 50th anniversary with a week-long celebration
In October 2025, the city of Bottrop will host a special event to commemorate a significant milestone in the history of mental health care in Germany. The Psychiatric Inquiry of 1975, a turning point in the nation's psychosocial development, will be celebrated as a festival week from October 6th to 15th.
The opening ceremony, scheduled for October 6th at 10 am in the Chamber Concert Hall, will feature specialist lectures, personal accounts, and a panel discussion. This event will mark the beginning of a week-long festival aimed at creating spaces for encounters, information, and exchange about mental health issues.
The Psychiatric Inquiry, a milestone in Germany's history, initiated a fundamental reform of psychiatry and set an important sign for more humanity in psychiatric care. It exposed abuses in psychiatric care and demanded fundamental changes, leading to a shift towards outpatient-oriented care.
