Pursuing a competitive pace: Uno-X Mobility vying for points to advance to WorldTour status in the Maryland Cycling Classic
Uno-X Mobility Aims for Maryland Cycling Classic Victory in Bid for WorldTour Promotion
Uno-X Mobility, the top-ranked ProTeam in the 2025 UCI Team Rankings, is gearing up for a challenging and aggressive strategy at the Maryland Cycling Classic. The race, a UCI ProSeries one-day event, is scheduled towards the end of the cycling season, though the exact date for 2025 has yet to be announced.
With 300 points up for grabs for the winner, the stakes are high for Uno-X Mobility, as they aim to close the gap on their current leader, IntermarcheĢ-Wanty, who are ahead by 1,185 points. Biniam Girmay's fifth-place finish in the Bretagne Classic in Plouay, earning him 180 points, has strengthened IntermarcheĢ-Wanty's position.
Uno-X Mobility, however, did not win the Bretagne Classic, with Jonas Abrahamsen finishing 38th, behind Arnaud De Lie (Lotto). Alex Aranburu, on the other hand, earned more points than Abrahamsen in the same event.
Despite this, Uno-X Mobility's manager, Gabriel Rasch, remains optimistic about their chances. "We're planning an aggressive strategy for the Maryland Cycling Classic," he said. "It's going to be a tough fight, but I believe we have what it takes to compete with Cofidis and potentially secure our promotion to the WorldTour."
Cofidis currently sits 26 points behind Uno-X Mobility in the UCI Team Rankings, and Rasch expects a fierce competition between the two teams through the end of the season.
In preparation for the Maryland Cycling Classic, Uno-X Mobility has swapped the Croatia race on their schedule with one-day races in Italy. They are also planning to race aggressively in the upcoming GP de QuƩbec and MontreƔl, as well as one-day races in Italy.
Uno-X Mobility currently sits in 10th place in the 2025 UCI Team Rankings and 19th place in the three-year UCI Team Rankings. A proposed merger between IntermarcheĢ-Wanty and Lotto could potentially result in Uno-X Mobility's promotion to the WorldTour, making their performances in these upcoming races even more crucial.
Magnus Cort, who has been recovering from the Tour de France, will not be participating in the Maryland Cycling Classic, but the team remains confident in their ability to secure a strong finish. The race is set to be an exciting showdown, with Uno-X Mobility and Cofidis vying for top honours.
