A state of emergency has been declared in the 1,000-person community of Porepunkah at the foot of the Australian Alps, as authorities continue their search for wanted violent offender Desmond Filby. The 56-year-old, also known as Freeman, is a suspected member of the "Sovereign Citizen" movement and is wanted for sexual offenses.

Filby opened fire on ten local police officers who visited his property near Porepunkah, killing two and injuring a third. He fled into the adjacent forest with several firearms and has been missing since the incident.

The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has warned that Filby is dangerous and authorities are seeking to apprehend him. The domestic security agency has also warned of the strengthening of far-right groups in Australia, including the "Sovereign Citizens."

Numerous expressions of sympathy for Filby on social media are a cause for concern, indicating the potential support for his beliefs. The "Sovereign Citizen" movement, similar to Germany's "Reichsbürger," is seen as dangerous due to its radical conspiracy theories and growing presence in Australia.

More than 450 police officers from several states are on continuous duty in the area, using military-style equipment and assault rifles. Police helicopters and drones are being used in the search for Filby, who is known for his deep-seated hatred of the state, which is evident in his past convictions as a gun enthusiast and his rebellious attitude towards the legal system.

Filby has been known to use pseudo-legal arguments and has referred to police as the "new Gestapo" and "Nazi lackeys." The search for Filby continues in the densely forested mountain ranges, where numerous caves and abandoned mines could serve as potential hiding places, especially during wintery weather and heavy snowfall.

Amalia, Filby's wife, has pleaded with him to surrender, stating that if he sees or hears her message, he should give up. She claims not to believe in conspiracy theories but has expressed condolences for the slain officer's family and hopes for a swift and safe end to the tragedy.

Victoria's Minister for Crime Prevention, Anthony Carbines, has promised to throw everything at the search effort. The region is living in fear, with residents advised to stay at home and be extremely cautious. The police urge anyone with information regarding Filby's whereabouts to contact authorities immediately.
